Congratulations to Confluence Academy – Old North’s student, Destiny Davis, for being one of ten students whose work was selected as a finalist in the Mayor’s Holiday Card Contest. The contest encouraged students to express their thoughts on the holiday spirit by drawing cover art for the Mayor’s holiday cards. This year more than 430 entries were submitted.

Destiny’s artwork was selected for Honorable Mention.

She learned about the contest in art class, taught by Muriel Sharpley. It took her 2 to 3 days to sketch the design. A few weeks later, she was in her afternoon homeroom class and her teacher got a call from the office. Destiny was sent to the principal, Sonya Murray.

“Ms. Murray told me that I won Honorable Mention,” said Destiny. “I was excited and shocked.” She called her mother from the office to tell her the good news. “She was excited, too.”

Destiny has never won a contest. “It feels really good,” she smiled. Her favorite subjects at school are reading and writing. She likes art because “you can do anything that inspires you. You
can draw your thoughts.”

On December 11, Destiny and her family will attend a special event at City Hall to celebrate the students and their winning entries. Congratulations Destiny! Keep up the good work!
